1. Perur Lake Count: It was started in March 2014 and still continues to the present day. It is usually conducted on the 2nd Sat of the month, starting at 7 AM, with the help of a spotting scope and binoculars. The wetland has been divided into six sectors and the birds seen or heard are entered in a systematic checklist for analysis.

2. Anuvavi Bird Count: It was started in Anuvavi Subramaniarkovil near the Thadagam area in Jan 2018 and continues till the present day. The count is conducted mostly on the 3rd Sun of the month by sampling for birds seen and heard in six designated locations. The count usually begins at the foothills around 7:30 AM and ends around 9 AM at the promontory of the temple. Since this temple is located on the face of a hill and surrounded by scrub and second growth forests, which contain elephants and other wildlife, extreme caution is used while conducting this count.

Bird lovers interested in volunteering for this project should possess some basic knowledge of the birds of the area and must be capable of trekking up to this moderate hill. Since this is a Hindu temple surrounded by reserve forestland, special behavioral rules also apply which are provided. View Code of Conduct.
