Bird Monitoring in India- an online Symposium was organized and conducted online by Bird Count India, CEDAR (Centre for Ecology Development and Research), NCF and LTEO India on 26th and 27th March, 2021. Perur Lake Forum was invited to participate in this symposium and make a presentation about the bird monitoring efforts that we have been doing since 2014. We participated in this symposium to make a case on what we have been doing and why. Our emphasis during this almost seven year monitoring is on waterbirds. We presented a few examples to illustrate that the population changes of “Common Birds” are the true indicators of ecosystem health. A brief observation was also made about the various threats that our wetlands face. Mr. Sai Vivek, one of our core volunteers gave a smooth delivery of this long term work and the link for the 7 minute presentation can be found below.

PS: Our presentation on waterbirds by Vivek is uploaded on the Bird Monitoring website with the addition of the 3 minute exchange of our ideas. Here is the YouTube link of the same: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6BmWULhagY0
